The use of stainless steel plates is very wide. In different application fields, stainless steel plates can be processed into any desired style. How does the stainless steel plate manufacturer bend the stainless steel plate? What should be paid attention to when bending?
Due to the high yield point and high
hardness of stainless steel itself, the cold work hardening effect is
significant. The characteristics of stainless steel plates when bent are as
follows:
1.
Because the thermal conductivity is poorer than ordinary low carbon steel, the
elongation is low, resulting in a large required deformation force;
2.
Compared with carbon steel, stainless steel sheet has a strong tendency to
rebound;
3. Due
to the low elongation of stainless steel plate compared to carbon steel, the
bending angle R of the workpiece during bending is greater than that of carbon
steel, otherwise there is a possibility of cracks;
4. Due
to the high hardness of the stainless steel plate and the significant effect of
cold work hardening, the tool steel with heat treatment hardness of 60HRC or
more should be selected when selecting the bending tool, and its surface
roughness is an order of magnitude higher than that of the carbon steel bending
tool.
According
to the characteristics of the above stainless steel plate during bending, the
following conditions should be noted during operation;
1. Under
the unit size, the thicker the stainless steel plate, the greater the bending
force required, and as the plate thickness increases, the bending force margin
should be greater when selecting the bending equipment;
2. Under
the unit size, the greater the tensile strength and the smaller the elongation,
the greater the required bending force and the larger the bending angle;
3. In
the case where the plate thickness corresponds to the bending radius in the
design drawing, according to experience, the unfolding size of a curved
workpiece is the addition of the right-angle side minus two plate thicknesses,
which can fully meet the design accuracy requirements. The unfolding amount can
be calculated according to the empirical formula. Simplify the calculation
process and greatly improve production efficiency;
4. The
greater the yield strength of the material, the greater the amount of elastic
recovery. In order to obtain the 90-degree angle of the bending piece, the
smaller the angle of the pressure knife needs to be designed. Compared with
carbon steel, stainless steel with the same plate thickness has a large bending
angle. Special attention should be paid to this. Otherwise, bending cracks will
occur, which will affect the strength of the workpiece.
