When drilling parts made of copper, it is easy to break the drill bit. This is because the cutting force is small when the copper is drilled, and the cutting temperature is low. In addition, the high plasticity of the copper itself will cause the chip to not easily break. The problem is that the deformation is large, so that it will roll together and it is difficult to evacuate chips. In view of the problem of drilling small holes in precision machining of copper materials, what do we need to pay attention to?

1. The clamping position of the drill must be correct. For the drill with a small diameter, due to its low rigidity, it is easy to deform and bend after being axially loaded, which causes the hole drill to distort and cause the drill to break easily. In order to avoid this situation, the drill bit should be as short as possible to increase the rigidity of the drill.


2.  The position of the workpiece should be correct when clamping, and the drilling surface must be flat, so that the axis of the drill is perpendicular to the plane of the machined parts of the precision mechanical parts, to avoid radial forces during drilling, bending the drill, bending the hole, and causing the drill It is easy to break; when drilling small holes, in order to prevent the drill bit from drifting, a center hole can be used to drill a positioning hole before drilling, and then the drill bit is used to drill the hole.


3. When drilling small holes in copper-based precision parts, lubricating coolant should be added. The lubricating coolant uses a mixture of 5% -8% emulsion and kerosene, or it can be lubricated with vegetable oil.


4. It is necessary to strictly control the depth of each drilling hole according to the diameter of the drill bit and the situation of chip evacuation, and withdraw the drill bit frequently to evacuate the chip to prevent the chip from clogging in the hole and break the drill bit.
