What is the difference between acrylic casting plate and extruded plate?
2020-03-23

Acrylic, also known as PMMA or organic glass, and the chemical name is polymethyl methacrylate. It is an important plastic polymer material that was developed earlier. It has good transparency, chemical stability and weather resistance, easy dyeing, easy processing, beautiful appearance, and has been widely used in the construction industry. Plexiglass products can generally be divided into casting plates and extrusion plates. What is the difference between these two types of acrylic plates?

 1. The craft process is different: The casting process is like making tofu. Soymilk is poured into an outer frame mold, and then pressed with a plate, and solidified to form tofu. This process can make very thick plates, but the tolerances will be relatively large. The extrusion plate is formed by mechanical extrusion. The extrusion process is like pressing a dumpling skin between two metal rollers. The thickness is relatively uniform, but the thicker plate cannot be pressed.

2. Different thickness tolerances: The thickness tolerances of sheet materials (casting: 1.8MM-300MM extrusion: 0.5-12MM) are different from the thickness tolerances of extruded plates.

3. Different performance: Casting plate has high process performance, suitable for various processes, no crystal points on the surface, and relatively high transparency. The corners of the extruded board will turn yellow, and the surface will easily have crystal points (the dust-free workshop can solve this problem), and the process performance is weak.

4. Production cycle: It is because of the difference in the above properties that the molding production time is relatively long, and the high degree of automation of extrusion can be produced in large quantities.

From the above, it is not difficult to see that there is a big difference in the production process between the casting plate and the extruded plate, but it cannot be said that the casting plate is better than the extruded plate. They each have their own advantages. Acrylic casting plate is suitable for small batch processing, has unmatched flexibility in color system and surface texture effect, and complete product specifications, suitable for various special uses. Acrylic extruded sheet is not weak, it is better for bending and heating forming than casting sheet, and it is suitable for processing large size sheet, which is conducive to rapid vacuum plastic forming. At the same time, the thickness tolerance of the extruded plate is smaller than that of the casting plate. However, due to the large-scale automated production of extruded plates, the color and specifications are inconvenient to adjust, so the variety of product specifications is limited to a certain extent.
