What's the difference between ABS and POM plastic materials in properties?

1.The characteristics of the two are different:

1).The characteristics of ABS plastic materials: ABS has excellent comprehensive physical and mechanical properties, and good low-temperature impact resistance. Dimensional stability. Electrical properties, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, dyeability, finished product processing and mechanical processing are better. ABS resin is resistant to water, inorganic salts, alkalis and acids. It is insoluble in most alcohols and hydrocarbon solvents, but easily soluble in aldehydes, ketones, esters and certain chlorinated hydrocarbons.

 

ABS resin has low heat distortion temperature and is flammable and has poor heat resistance. The melting temperature is 217~237℃, and the thermal decomposition temperature is above 250℃. Many modified ABS materials on the market today are mixed with nozzle materials and recycled materials. As a result, the performance of customer molded products is not very stable.

 

2).The characteristics of POM plastic materials: POM plastic materials have high mechanical strength and rigidity; the highest fatigue strength; environmental resistance, good resistance to organic solvents; strong resistance to repeated impact; wide temperature range (-40℃~120 ℃); good electrical properties; good recovery; self-lubricating, good wear resistance; excellent dimensional stability.

 

2. The two applications are different:

1). Application of ABS plastic materials:

(1) Automobile interior and exterior decoration: instrument panel, decorative pillar, instrument front cover, grille, interior and exterior decorations;

(2) Business equipment casing and built-in components: notebook/desktop computers, copiers, printers, plotters, monitors;

(3) Telecommunications, mobile phone casings, accessories and smart cards (SIM cards).

 

2). Application of POM plastic materials:

(1) Pesticides: synthetic acetochlor, butachlor and glyphosate, etc.;

(2) Coating: synthetic high-end automotive paint;

(3) Resin: synthetic urea-formaldehyde resin, phenolic resin, polyacetal resin, melamine resin, ion exchange resin, etc. and various adhesives.


3. The performance of the two is different:

1).The performance of ABS plastic materials: ABS engineering plastics are opaque and ivory-colored pellets, and their products can be colored into colorful colors and have high gloss. The relative density of ABS is about 1.05, and the water absorption rate is low. ABS has a good combination with other materials, and is easy to be processed by surface printing, coating and plating. The oxygen index of ABS is 18-20. It is a flammable polymer. The flame is yellow with black smoke and a special cinnamon smell.

 

2). The performance of POM plastic materials: POM has good electrical insulation and is hardly affected by temperature and humidity; dielectric constant and dielectric loss change little in a wide range of temperature, humidity and frequency; arc resistance Excellent and can be maintained at high temperatures.

 

POM is not resistant to strong acids and oxidants, and has certain stability to olefinic and weak acids. POM has good solvent resistance, can withstand hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, ethers, gasoline, lubricating oil and weak alkalis, etc., and can maintain considerable chemical stability at high temperatures. Low water absorption and good dimensional stability.
