Acrylic, also known as PMMA or plexiglass, acrylic, is an important plastic polymer material that has been developed earlier. It has good transparency, chemical stability, weather resistance, easy dyeing, easy processing, beautiful appearance, acrylic Products include acrylic sheets, acrylic plastic pellets, acrylic light boxes, signboards, acrylic bathtubs, acrylic artificial marble, acrylic resin, acrylic (latex) paint, acrylic adhesives, etc., with a wide variety of products. At present, the application of acrylic is becoming more and more extensive. It is widely used in the construction industry, lighting engineering, instrumentation parts, automobile lights, optical lenses, and transparent pipes.
Acrylic (PMMA) polishing is an important process for finished product processing. The cut surface after the previous cutting process is rough and the surface will become blurred. In order to restore gloss and transparency, acrylic polishing is required. The following are three commonly used polishing processes.
(1) Flame polishing process
The edges of acrylic products are polished by high temperature (800-3000dc), and the edges of acrylic products after flame polishing have a bright effect. The effect of this polishing process is relatively poor. The principle is to burn the rough surface with the flame of an alcohol-fueled spray gun to achieve the polishing effect. The advantages are low processing cost, fast speed and time saving, and it is suitable for acrylic products that are not very demanding and relatively cheap.
(2) Cloth wheel polishing process
This polishing effect is much better than flame polishing. The advantage is that it can polish not only the flat surface, but also the irregular acrylic display stand. The disadvantage is that it is manual operation, which can not be polished at a time, the speed is slow and the efficiency is low. It is suitable for high-demand acrylic products and other products. Sometimes it is also used in conjunction with diamond polishing to achieve the best results.
(3) Diamond polishing process
The use of professional-grade semi-automatic polishing equipment has the advantage of high efficiency, especially for polishing straight acrylic surfaces. The disadvantage is that it can only polish flat and inclined surfaces, not curved surfaces. Acrylic display racks, plexiglass display racks, etc. are basically polished with a diamond polishing machine and a diamond polishing knife.
