Main Application of plastic insulation materials in electronic and electrical industry
2020-02-13

The electronic and electrical industry consumes the third largest amount of plastic, second only to the packaging and construction industries. Here mainly introduces the application of plastic as an insulating material in the electronic and electrical industry.

Electronic Component

Electronic components are generally centered on connectors, coils, and induction components, including filters, oscillators, and keys. The integration of these components and the advent of surface decoration technology (SMT) have greatly increased the added value of electronic products.

Connector

Connectors can be made from a variety of materials, such as PA, PBT, PET, etc. Among them, the connector produced by PA has a lower cost. For example, the nylon product PAF23 of Xiamen JY Machinery has good processing fluidity and can be used to make thin-walled parts. With the diversification of parts, when the requirements for dimensional stability and heat resistance are higher, PBT material can be selected, and plug materials with special requirements can be made of PC material. Of course, PPS and LCP reinforced plastics with better heat resistance are also ideal choices.

Coil bobbin

The coil bobbin is made by welding the coil wire and the terminal. After the terminal insert is formed, there are special requirements for its insertion process, especially when large coils are soldered with large heat capacity, so PA, PBT, and PC can be selected for manufacturing. Among them, PA and reinforced PA have the characteristics of high strength, high toughness, certain insulation properties, easy formation of thin-walled skeleton, and high production efficiency. With the development of relays, the requirements for miniaturization have been put forward. Therefore, for materials that require short-term work at 260 ° C, PPS should be selected.

Resistor

As a load in the circuit, the resistor plays the role of reducing the power supply voltage and regulating the working voltage. Plastics are mainly used in resistors to make components such as resistor skeletons, housings, and gaskets. The requirements for the plastic skeleton are: high mechanical strength, excellent electrical insulation properties, good heat resistance and dimensional stability. Commonly used materials are: polysulfone, PBT, injection-grade phenolic plastic powder.

Transformer

Transformer is an important electronic and electrical component. It plays the role of changing voltage, transmitting voltage, transmitting power, and impedance matching. Plastics can be used as skeletons, terminal boards, etc. in transformers.

Reinforced PBT, reinforced PPS, etc. are all new high-temperature resistant engineering plastics. Their common features are good heat resistance, good solvent resistance, high strength, and good dielectric properties. Reinforced PBT can be used under dry conditions for long-term work at 150 ° C and short-term work at about 250 ° C. However, the enhanced PBT has poor heat resistance and water resistance, and it is not suitable for long-term work in humid and hot conditions.

Relay

Relays in the electronic and electrical industry play the role of automatic operation, supervision, regulation and protection. For example, to maintain a constant temperature for a highly stable oscillator, a thermal relay must be used to protect it.

The relay skeleton and the transformer skeleton have the same requirements. For example, higher heat resistance, sufficient strength, and good dielectric properties are required. New engineering plastics are often used as the skeleton material of relays due to their high production efficiency, good mechanical and dielectric properties. At present, there is a trend of miniaturization of relays, which requires that the size of the plastic skeleton is small, and under the premise of ensuring the use requirements, the thinner the skeleton wall, the better. Because this can reduce the volume of the wire envelope and reduce the length of the copper wire. For skeletons with a wall thickness of only 0.2mm, materials such as PA and PP should be used.

In addition, the electric key is one of the important parts of the relay. The application technology and function of the electric key have been continuously improved, and the types of plastics required have also been diversified. Generally speaking, electric keys require plastics with high heat resistance and dimensional stability. There are PBT, PA, PET, modified PPO and so on.

Structural component

Electronic and electrical equipment structural parts mainly include transmission parts (gears, cams, bearings), fixing parts (brackets, seat plates, handles, hinges, screws, etc.) and appearance parts (such as housings, frames, covers, plates, etc.). In the past these parts were made of metallic materials. Because engineering plastics have the characteristics of small friction coefficient, good wear resistance and certain mechanical strength, plastics have been popularized and applied in wear-resistant and lubricated parts. In particular, the emergence of new high-modulus and high-strength carbon fiber composite materials has provided good conditions for the application of plastics in structural parts.
