No matter what form of water-based epoxy resin and water-based epoxy curing agent is selected, the water-based epoxy system that finally has practical application value is a dispersed multiphase structure. Phase composition, its film-forming mechanism is different from that of general polymer emulsions such as acrylic emulsions (condensation and film-forming, physical process), and it is not exactly the same as the film-forming of solvent-based epoxy. In the solvent-based epoxy system , epoxy resin and curing agent are dissolved in the organic solvent in molecular form, the formed system is homogeneous, and the curing reaction is carried out between molecules, so the curing reaction is relatively complete, and the formed cured product is also homogeneous .


The water-based epoxy resin is a multiphase system. The epoxy resin and the curing agent are dispersed in the water phase in the form of a dispersed phase. The cross-linking curing process is a process of mutual penetration and internal diffusion and cross-linking reaction between the particles during the process of water evaporation. The degree of cure of the epoxy depends on four factors:

a) Compatibility: The better the compatibility between the water-based epoxy resin and the water-based epoxy curing agent, the more conducive to the mutual internal diffusion of the curing agent particles and the epoxy resin particles, which is conducive to the progress of the curing reaction;

b) Particle size: When the particle size is small, the dispersed phase particles of the water-based epoxy resin and the water-based epoxy curing agent can fully penetrate into the inner core to achieve a more complete degree of curing;

c) Hydrophilic-lipophilic balance value: The hydrophilic-lipophilic balance value of the water-based epoxy resin and the water-based epoxy curing agent is close, and a consistent coexistence stable state is achieved in the water phase. If the difference is large, the more hydrophilic The components will gradually aggregate in the water phase, resulting in the separation of the resin phase and the curing agent phase;

d) Dispersion uniformity: In the state of multiphase separation, only through a certain mechanical stirring can the resin phase and the curing agent phase be evenly distributed in the water phase; (epoxy stirring and mixing is very important in the application) ( In the process of using oily epoxy, some friends think that a film can be formed as long as it is simply stirred or even not stirred. In fact, there is a big misunderstanding, because the oily epoxy used is dissolved by solid epoxy, such as 75% E- 20. Even if no curing agent is added, a very hard dry film can be formed after the solvent volatilizes, but this dry film is cured without curing agent cross-linking, and becomes liquid after being heated, and the dry film has no performance at all).
